What direction does the pelvic floor go in when your client works their pelvic floor?

The answer is that it should lift, ie go up, when seen on real time ultrasound, but sometimes, it does the opposite, and goes down.

This can be unexpected, when a woman thinks that she is doing her exercises correctly, and then finds out that the muscles are not working well or in the right way.

Sometimes it is because she is breath holding that the pelvic floor will be forced downwards instead of lifting upwards. This podcast discusses more about what can influence pelvic floor direction when working with your pregnant and postnatal clients.
